One of those days!

Today was one of those days that I would just like to forget. While I usually love my work schedule (Tues, Wed, Thurs) and home with my girls on Mondays and Fridays, I sooooo wanted to be at work today (or anywhere besides home.) Actually our entire Christmas break has been quite trying on both AJ and me as parents. I'm not sure if Lily is going through a stage (at 6 yrs), or Lia is going through a stage (at 3 yrs) or both of them are going through stages, or they've simply spent too much quality time together over break (including Disney), or I'm just losing it, but OH MY GOD today was the worst day I've EVER had with my girls! I finally called AJ at work at 4:07 pm in tears and said he better come home now because I was about to lose it. There was so much bickering, whining, crying, talking back, not listening blah, blah, blah -- I just couldn't take it any more. I finally went up to my bedroom so I could try to calm down and not do anything I might regret. I guess I'm lucky this is my first parental break-down in over 5 years (unfortunately with 2 girls, there's surely plenty more to come.) It definitely wasn't one of my glory days as a Mama, but AJ and I had a talk tonight and we're going to try to make sure days like these don't happen again.

After such a disaster of a day, I caught this Kodak moment right before we put the girls to bed. Why can't it be like this 24/7?
Oh, how I love my babies!

Oh Dawn,
You did the right thing...calling your hubby and removing yourself is the best thing to do. I teach first grade and I swear, my friend across the hall who also teaches knows when I give her "the look" to take my kids for a minute. Sometimes it can just be more than you can take.

You are such a good mommy! Remind yourself that. If nothing else, at least your girls are cuties ; )

Those days happen! I only have one and you did the right thing by calling AJ and walking away. Their little minds are growing! Turning 6 was rough for us. Now that she has turned the curve and is closer to 7, she's doing much better. Just remember the good days always out number the bad! ;0)

I gotta say... I'm impressed it was your first time!! HAHA!! I think I am about to kill Liam and Em on a daily basis!! HAHA!!

They love and fight each other ALL the time. Some moments it is pure bliss and others pure hell. The reality of siblings. I'm sorry you had such a tough day though. You should take some time this upcoming weekend to get away for a bit - refresh.

If it makes you feel any better, Em had a tantrum that lasted three hours the other day. She's never done that before... world record. I'm pretty sure the holidays were getting the best of her.

Hang in there!!

Hi Dawn,

Sorry to hear about your awful day! I hope you were able to sleep well and wake refreshed the next day. I too am impressed that this is your first break down. Good for you!

In nursing school, during the peds rotation, our instructor responded to our disgust over child abuse like this:

"The ONLY things that differentiate me from parents who abuse their children are education and a support system." She went on to say that she had sat on the curb more that a couple of times waiting to "tag your it" her husband when he pulled in the driveway.

That always stuck with me. You had A.J. to call and a way to get out. We are blessed parents to have that support.

They were being kids at the end of a crazy, out of the norm, time and you did well in the end. Don't beat yourself up. It sounds like you and A.J. made a plan for next time.

You are a WONDERFUL Mom!! Despite your terrible day.

I think your post can echo for a lot of us as parents! I know I certainly have my days. I bet seeing your two girls on the couch at the end of such a trying day just melted your heart!
